Prayer

PrayerHow do I talk to God?

We talk to God through prayer.  What is prayer?  Prayer is speaking to God.  Plain and simple.  God speaks to us through His Word as we read it and we speak to God through prayer.  We can pray in our heads silently or we can pray out loud.  Either way, because we are His child when we trust Him as Savior,  He hears what we say and He answers us.

His answer is like the answer of anyone in authority over us.  Sometimes it is yes, sometimes it is no, and sometimes it is to wait.  Just because the answer to our prayer is not what we want doesn’t mean it wasn’t answered.  God answers our prayer according to His unlimited knowledge and always answers our prayers for our good. Matthew 7:7 – Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.

How are we to pray?

We are to pray often.  We are to pray continually.  Prayer should be a constant ongoing action in our minds and with our lips. We are to pray about everything, big or small. We should pray with thanksgiving and praise.  Thanking God for our clothes, house, car, job, money and for creation. We should also pray with worship and praise for our salvation, for God’s care for us, for our church and friends, and for our future home in heaven that is awaiting us.

We should pray for our needs and for the needs of our family.  For our health, financial situation, job, etc. We should pray for others.  For their needs, health, safety, etc. Ephesians 6:18 – Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints. Philippians 4:6 – Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

How is it possible to pray to God?

Prayer is a wonderful privilege God has given His children.  We no longer have to come to a temple and bring a sacrifice and have a priest present it to God and hope that He is satisfied.  We know go directly before God without having to go through another man.  Because of Jesus and His salvation we can go directly to our heavenly Father and talk to Him about everything. Hebrews 4:16Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Take time each morning to pray.  Pray for safety, for the strength to be a good encouragement to others and a good witness to the lost without Christ.  Make it a point to talk to God and have a relationship with Him.
