Who is God?

God is Knowable.God

He created the heavens and the earth. Genesis 1:1  – In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

He is able to be known by those who are saved, who are His children.  He relates with us so that we may know Him in a personal way. Jeremiah 9:23-24 – Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches: But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD.

God is Approachable.

Psalm 145:18 –  The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth.  We can talk to God out loud or in our minds.  He is always near us.  Because of Jesus cleansing us of our sins, we can go boldly before the throne room of God in our minds and talk directly to God anytime about anything and He will hear us.  Hebrews 4:16Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

God is Forgiving.

Isaiah 55:6-7 –  Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon (forgive our sins).  Acts 10:42And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead.  43 To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission (forgiveness) of sins.

When we repent of our sins and receive Christ as Savior we are forgiven once and for all.  We are no longer condemned.  God now sees us through the payment of sins made by Jesus on the cross and does not see our sins.  God casts our sins as far as the east is from the west never to bring them up against us again.  Jesus took our place on the cross and bought forgiveness for us to pay for every one of our sins; past, present and future.  We are made righteous through the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

God is Loving.

John 3:16 – For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.  He loved us so much that He sent His only Son to die for us so that we could be saved from His wrath and judgment.  God loves us 100% and He will never love us any more or any less than when we first received Christ as our Savior.  God accepts us completely and none of our failures, sins, or weaknesses will ever cause Him to reject us or turn His back on us.  We are loved by God who is the definition of love.  1 John 4:16 – And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.

God is Holy and Just.

1 Samuel 2:2 –  There is none holy as the LORD: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God.  God punishes sin.  He does not overlook sin.  God is infinitely holy; so therefore, in His eyes, sin is infinitely wicked; and therefore, must receive an infinite punishment of eternal hell.  God will judge the sin and the sinner unless he repents of his sin and turns to JesusRomans 1:18 – For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness.

God will not judge those who turn to His Son and receive the forgiveness and pardon for sin that He paid for on the cross.  Once we are saved we are no longer under the wrath of a holy and just God.  Jesus satisfied God’s wrath and took it upon himself and now we are free from His condemnation.  As believers, we will be lovingly chastised by God to restore us back to fellowship with Him but we are never again to be under His wrath or condemnation.

God the Father is the Trinity.

The trinity is the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.  Three yet one.  The trinity is a Biblical truth that is not meant to be understood by mere men but to be believed.  1 John 5:7 –  For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.  The Father is not the same person as the Son; the Son is not the same person as the Holy Spirit; and the Holy Spirit is not the same person as Father.  They are not three gods and not three beings.  They are three distinct persons; yet, they are all the one God.  Each has a will, can speak, can love, etc., and these are demonstrations of personhood.

God the Son (Jesus) is the Trinity.

He has always existed.  He has always been.  When He came to earth, He was born of a virgin, lived a perfect and sinless life, was crucified on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins and physically arose from the grave three days later.  1 Corinthians 15:1-3 –  Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.

Jesus was not only the Son of God but He also was God on the earth in the flesh.  Isaiah 9:6For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.  Jesus is a part of the trinity.

God the Holy Spirit is the Trinity.

The Holy Spirit was sent down to earth to indwell men after Jesus ascended up into heaven.  The Holy Spirit is also a part of the trinity.  The Holy Spirit serves to guide each and every believer in their daily walk, in learning what the Bible teaches, and primarily pointing to Jesus as the savior of the world.  John 14:26 – But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

The one and only true God, is the God whose Son is Jesus Christ, who sent the Holy Spirit to earth to indwell the hearts of His children. There is no other God but the God who is one, yet three.  The Holy Trinity: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost.
